Fireworks Sugar Cookie Cake
Happy 4th of July! Fireworks Sugar Cookie Cake is a must have for the holiday. The kids can help make this delicious dessert!
Ingredients
- 2 sticks butter, softened, divided
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. vanilla extract, divided
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup patriotic M&Ms, divided
- 1/2 cup red and white sprinkles
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. heavy whipping cream
- Red or blue food coloring, optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350º.
- Beat 1 1/2 sticks butter and sugar with a hand or stand mixer until creamy. Beat in egg and 1 tablespoon vanilla, then mix in baking soda, salt and cream of tartar. Slowly mix in flour. Stir in 3/4 cup M&Ms and sprinkles.
- Press batter into a 9” round cake pan lined with foil and sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Press 1/4 cup M&Ms onto top. Bake for 19 to 22 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
- Beat remaining 1/2 stick butter until smooth, then slowly beat in powdered sugar until crumbly. Add salt, 1 teaspoon vanilla, heavy whipping cream and food coloring. Beat until smooth. Use a piping bag to decorate edge of cake with frosting. Top with more sprinkles and M&Ms. Store covered for up to 2 days.
