How to Put Creative Twists on Traditional Thanksgiving Pies
Believe it or not, we’re just weeks away from Thanksgiving! And if you’re in charge of the desserts this year, we challenge you to get creative. Here’s a few recipes that put twists on some of your favorite traditional Thanksgiving pies.
Pumpkin Pie
Creamy and full of warm fall spices, pumpkin pie is undoubtedly the star of most Thanksgiving dessert tables. And while we love the traditional version, there’s a wide variety of equally delicious, pumpkin pie-inspired desserts worth trying this holiday season. For example, these Pumpkin Pie Balls have all the best flavors of a traditional pumpkin pie packed inside crisp crescent dough and are, wait for it, drizzled with homemade icing. Meanwhile, Pumpkin Pie Sticks use pre-made pie crusts and pumpkin pie filling to create crisp, dippable sticks, great for upcoming holiday parties! Try dipping them in warm caramel sauce or fluffy cool whip.
Apple Pie
As a longstanding symbol of America, apple pie is yet another classic dessert found at most Thanksgiving dinners. This year, instead of baking a full pie, save time and make these Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie Cups. For this recipe, all you have to do is fill pre-made cinnamon rolls with canned apple pie filling; simple, yet oh-so delicious. Another apple pie-turned-finger food recipe is this one for Apple Pie Bites. Roll an apple slice and plenty of fall spices into crescent roll dough, then set out for guests to snack on!
Pecan Pie
Crunchy and sugary sweet, pecan pie is a crowd favorite around the holidays. But, we get it- messing with a complicated homemade pie crust and stovetop filling can be frustrating. Simplify your usual pecan pie recipe and make party-friendly Pecan Pie Bars instead. Use crescent rolls as the base, top with your pecan pie filling ingredients and let your oven do the rest of the work! To add extra flavor to your usual pecan pie recipe, make Chocolate Chip and Whiskey Pecan Pie. Stay tuned for a pecan pie brownie recipe featured on WFMJ Great Groceries during Thanksgiving week.
Chocolate Cream Pie
Chocolate lovers, we didn’t forget about you! Turn chocolate cream pie into single-serve desserts using our recipe for Mini Chocolate Cheesecakes. Served in cupcake liners, these cheesecakes are full of fluffy chocolate flavor. Or, swap out the crust of your pie with a sheet of fudgy brownies, using this recipe for Chocolate Cream Pie Brownies. These brownies are extra rich and will be super simple to slice and serve at Thanksgiving.
