Your Guide to What’s in Season This July and August
As the hot summer season continues on, more and more produce reach their peak season! Here’s some of the produce you can expect to find fresh and in abundance at your local Sparkle this July and August.
July
With the scorching 90-degree July weather, comes lots of colorful fruits and veggies hitting the grocery shelves. Think: Lots of juicy fruit like peaches and crisp veggies like corn on the cob and artichokes.
- Watermelon – What says summer better than a big, juicy slice of watermelon? Next time you buy the fruit, make Watermelon, Feta & Mint Skewers
- Peaches – Juicy and sweet, peaches make a great summertime snack or dessert. Use them to make Little Peach Pies
- Artichokes – Loaded with nutrients and flavor, artichokes work really well in our recipe for Spinach and Artichoke Steak Roll-ups
- Corn – Now is the time to incorporate sweet corn in your salsas, salads and sides. You can eat it raw, grill it or roast it. Use it in our recipe for Mexican Street Corn
- Squash – Use fresh summer squash to make zoodles, squash taco boats or Zucchini and Cheese Strata
August
As August arrives, we’ll start to say goodbye to the juicy and colorful fruits of July and hello to some fibrous, hearty vegetables.
- Blackberries – But, before we say goodbye for good, make sure to grab up some juicy blackberries that are definitely in season in August. Then use them to make Blackberry Peach Salad
- Eggplant – Ditch the usual eggplant parmesan and instead make Gia Russa Eggplant Pasta Salad
- Lima Beans – Although not always the favorite vegetable in the house, lima beans are super tasty in this recipe for Southern Style Baby Lima Beans
- Okra – If you’ve never used okra before, we recommend trying it in this recipe for Okra Fritters
- Sweet Potatoes – Rich in Vitamin A and high in fiber, sweet potatoes are used in a wide variety of side dishes. Make them the star of your next dinner with this recipe for Pulled Pork Stuffed Sweet Potatoes
