beer can chicken

This fun grilling recipe is a great way to cook whole fryer chicken, especially when it’s on sale at your local Sparkle! Pick up a whole chicken and your favorite can of beer, then get started.

Ingredients

  • 1 (3 – 5 lb.) whole chicken
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 Tbsp. paprika
  • 2 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 (12 oz.) can beer

Instructions

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill to 375°.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, chili powder, paprika, dry mustard, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Place the can of beer in the center of the plate.
  3. Rinse chicken under cold running water and pat dry. Fit chicken over the can of beer with the legs on the bottom; keep upright. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of the seasoning mix into the top cavity of the chicken. Rub the remaining seasoning mix over the entire surface of the chicken.
  4. Place the chicken, standing on the can, directly on the preheated grill. Close the lid and cook until the juices run clear, about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
