Buttermilk Brined Turkey Breast
Whether you plan on serving a whole turkey or turkey breast for Thanksgiving, try brining it. In the Sparkle Eats Kitchen, we’re brining a turkey breast in buttermilk and spices before baking it. The combination of the buttermilk and salt helps keep the turkey extra moist and gives it a nicely browned skin.
What you will need to make this delicious turkey is 1 (6-7 pound) bone-in turkey breast, 3 cups of buttermilk, 3 tablespoons of hot sauce, 2 tablespoons of salt, 1 tablespoon of dried basil, 1 tablespoon of garlic powder, 1 tablespoon of onion powder, 1 tablespoon of freshly ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, 4 tablespoons of butter, and last but not least, salt and pepper for seasoning.
Combine the buttermilk, salt, hot sauce, basil, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper and cayenne in a large resealable plastic bag (or a large bowl, if you don’t have a bag big enough for your turkey). Add the turkey into the bag and seal it up. Refrigerate for 8 to 12 hours.
Once your turkey has finished marinating, preheat your oven to 350º. Discard the remaining marinade and pat your turkey dry with paper towels. Set on a roasting rack, set inside a roasting pan. Next, pour melted butter all over turkey and season generously with salt and pepper. Roast in the oven for about 1 1/2 hours or until internal temperature measures 165º. Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before slicing.
This recipe is delicious and a very different way to make a turkey. This one is sure to be a crowd pleaser this holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving!
