Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Squares

Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Squares

Megan is in the kitchen this week using both our own store baked ham and Swiss cheese in between layers of flaky puff pastry. This is a great lunch, light dinner or accompaniment to soup. It’s so easy to make, and a great one to get the kids in the kitchen with you because this one is mostly just assembly. So let’s get started!

All you need to make this recipe is 2 thawed puff pastry sheets, half of a pound of Sparkle store baked sliced ham, half of a pound of sliced Swiss cheese, 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of milk and an eighth of a teaspoon of garlic powder.

Start by preheating your oven to 400º. Unfold one puff pastry sheet onto a greased baking sheet. Spread Dijon mustard on the pastry, leaving a 1/2-inch border all around. Top with a layer of ham then a layer of Swiss cheese.

Put a second layer of pastry over top and press down lightly along edges with your fingers or a fork to form a seal. Cut several slits into the top of the puff pastry to allow steam to release during baking.

In a small bowl, combine egg, milk and garlic powder. Brush over the top. Bake for 20 minutes, or until browned. Cool, cut and serve!
